KMF Scoop Skills Champion Accolade at the Enginuity Skills Awards

Staffordshire based engineering firm KMF Precision Sheet Metal has received high praise and recognition for its outstanding collaborative efforts, work experience programme and apprenticeship offerings at the recent Enginuity Skills Awards 2024.
The leading sheet metal manufacturing company attended the prestigious black-tie gala event which took place on Wednesday 5th June at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, hosted by Steph McGovern.
KMF took the trophy for large employer Skills Champion of the Year which is the top accolade presented to a large engineering or manufacturing employer for outstanding commitment to sustainable business improvement through learning and development. The company were finalists in this category alongside industry leaders BAE Systems and Siemens.
Not only did the company receive this huge honour, KMF was also commissioned to create the stunning table decorations for the event. The dramatic centrepiece was a beautiful design that merged art with engineering entitled “Give me wings so that I may fly”. Produced by designer Suhaill Shaikh and fabricated by KMF apprentices, key to the design was the ease of production, assembly, packing and transport, and most importantly, low wastage and health and safety features.
In 2010, KMF set up a Young Engineer of the Year programme, working with year 10 students across high schools in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Over the past 14 years this has seen them work with more than 25,000 young people while investing over £1m in STEM projects and equipment for schools.
KMF is one of the most successful precision sheet metal and engineering companies within the UK, and its apprenticeship programme has hundreds of applications every year. The industry leading programme has resulted in increased and more diverse recruitment, and plans being put in place for sustainable skills development.
Jenny Johnston, People and Culture Manager said: “We are delighted to win the Skills Champion Award. KMF is passionate about apprenticeships, and we utilise our Apprenticeship Levy to upskill our workforce. Our apprentices are the future of our business, and we provide the very best training through our in-house Apprenticeship Programme, which is recognised by the National Apprenticeship Service as world-class.”
