As the dark, winter nights draw in most families in Staffordshire fall asleep in a warm bed, but more than 100 babies and children face Christmas without a safe place to lay their heads.

Alice Charity, an organisation which supports vulnerable families in Staffordshire, is asking volunteers to take part in its Santa Dash fundraising initiative on Sunday 11 December.

They want to raise enough money to provide a bed for these children in time for Christmas, and Newcastle-under-Lyme-based KMF is sponsoring the event.

The dash will see a host of Santas make their way through Hanley Park in a 5K running and walking challenge to be greeted at the finish line with a shower of real snow.

KMF has supported the Alice Charity all year, most recently donating £1,055 from its annual charity Bonfire Night.

KMF is particularly excited to be sponsoring the Santa Dash and this excellent local charity.

As part of the launch, KMF and the Alice Charity were joined by another famous man in red and white — Stoke City star Marc Muniesa.

Marc spent the afternoon at KMF's manufacturing plant to encourage Stoke-On-Trent residents to join in the festive event.

The Stoke City FC player commented: "It's good to support this charity. It's always this kind of thing the club gets involved in. We try to support people around Stoke-on-Trent. It's important for Stoke City to try to help all these people who need it."

The event will also be a fun way to kick-start the festive season, with Christmas crafts, hot food stalls and a Santa story time grotto open on the day.

Rebecca Jones, KMF training centre and charity coordinator, said: "The Santa Dash is an exciting community event, which will allow both KMF and residents to help provide vulnerable children and babies with their own safe place to sleep."

"The Alice Charity, similar to KMF, aim to empower those in less fortunate circumstances. Therefore, lots of our employees and apprentices will be going along on the 11th, for a little fun and to give something back this Christmas."

All money raised through the Santa Dash will go directly to the 'Beds for Kids' campaign, a scheme both the Alice Charity and KMF, hope will see the county's children spending Christmas Eve in their own bed.

Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed Santa and the best children's fancy dress. Register for your place here at the Alice Charity Santa Dash.
